Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Gloria Negrete McLeod (CA-35) released the following statement in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which falls this coming Monday, January 21:

"As we celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King and watch President Barack Obama take the oath of office once more, let us strive to live up to Dr. King's dream for this nation and across our borders -- of equality for all regardless of color or creed," said Rep. Negrete McLeod.

"Dr. King was a man of peace. He lived in a world that at the time resisted his call for social justice. He fought against hatred and intolerance not through violence or threats, but through peace and understanding. He dedicated and gave his life working to ensure that the decency and respect for all be the defining character of this great nation."

"Let us complete Dr. King's work on economic justice, worker's rights and opportunity, of peace and prosperity for all, and strengthen the cause of freedom in pursuit of a more equal, more just, and more perfect union."
